Inle lake is situated in the hilly Sha State in the eastern part of Myanmar.
The lake, 22 km long and 10 km wide, has a population of some 150,000, many of
whom live on floating islands of vegetation. It?s famous for its scenic beauty
and the unique leg-rowing of the Inthas, the native lake-dwellers

Myanmar achieved independence from the United Kingdom on 4 January 1948 as the “Union of Burma”. It became the “Socialist Republic of the Union of Burma” on 4 January 1974, before reverting to the “Union of Burma” on 23 September 1988. On 18 June 1989, the State Law and Order Restoration Council adopted the name “Union of Myanmar”. This was recognized by the United Nations, but not by the US or UK Governments.
- I can’t say that I agree with United Nations this time. Burma is it’s name and I hope these children (already 14 years older) will live in a free Burma!
Burma is bordeed by China on the north, Laos on the east, Thailand on the southeast, Bangladesh on the west, and India on the northwest, with the Andaman Sea to the south, and the Bay of Bengal to the southwest.

Dear friends – please take a moment and send prayers of safety to the monks, nuns, and protesters of Myanmar, Burma. Note: By “prayers” I mean simply thoughts of good intention directed lovingly toward another. No need necessarily for the involvement of a deity or monotheistic belief system honoring only one God – found, for example, in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.

Open the doors of the freedom for Burma’s people

An evening cruise on the Irrawaddy just outside Bagan, Burma. We had attended
an annual Festival of the Moon. A unique experience. They came from everywhere
in the region by any form of transportation available.

The Swedagon Pagoda in Yangon, Burma is truly a spectacular complex of temples
and pagodas. This shot is just a small detail but is typical of the whole.

Fishermen head into a glittering golden sunrise, near Bagan in central Burma.
