Juche Tower

This picture is interstitial and dramatic with this rickety wooden bridge, the “no entrance” sign, the cryptic hut on the other side, and fog enshrouded North Korea in the background.
However, as much as I’d like bestow on this photo the theatrically abrupt name of “Bridge to North Korea,” I can’t, because that’s still China on the other side. The stream separating China from North Korea forks to the east of where
I’m taking this picture, creating a small island that’s still Chinese territory, North Korea is the other side of that island. There aren’t any bridges between the DPRK and China at so narrow a stream; both the Korean soldiers and the Chinese are concerned about Koreans trying to illegally immigrate into China.

The Pyongyang Metro consists of two lines covering quite a huge part of the city.
It is built more than 80 meters below street level and stations can be used as a huge air raid shelter. Although the Metro system has quite some stops only two are open to foreigners, but, as you can see, those two are quite worthwile visiting.
The trains and other technical equipment are russian built and similar to those used in Moscow.

North korean border patrol, ji’an tantalisingly close to north korea, but i wasn’t going to risk going any
further than this point. apparently there are other places nearer dandong
where you can step across into north korea.

Here you can see the North Korean building in the background (you can also see
a NK officer on the steps), and closer up are the South/North Korean buildings
that straddle the Demarcation Line. The South’s buildings are blue, and the
North’s are grey. Just to the right of the grey building you can see where the
Demarcation Line goes through.
