Kazakhstan Futuristic Pyramid

Rating: +2
Since 2006, kazakhstan’s new capital city of astana, itself an enormous hub of construction since it inherited the title in 1997, has been home to one of the world’s most impressive and visually futuristic pyramids, known as the palace of peace and reconciliation. it was designed by british super-architects foster + partners, cost 8.74 billion kazakh tenge (i don’t need to tell you bright young humans that this equates to approx. £35m) and was built to accommodate the triennial ‘congress of world and traditional religions’. if there was ever a positive to be found for the existence of the idiocy we know and love as religion, this building could be it, as after an impressively rapid 2 years of design and construction, the end product is a masterpiece.

The visible 5-storey pyramid section of the palace is as high as its base is wide (203ft) and is to be the centrepiece of the country’s ‘presidential park’.

A plan of the pyramid. the interior is just as impressive as the outer skin. this place is like a tardis and below the above-ground pyramid itself sits, amongst other things, an enormous 1′500 seat opera house - see final photo below.

Towering Green Magic: Spectacular Eco-Structures to compliment Italian beaches!

Rating: +17
Not many across the globe would be very familiar with a place called Rimini and if you happen to live outside Europe or even in Europe, it is hard to fault you about your ignorance in this regard. Quite honestly, Rimini was not a name on my ‘Places to visit’ list until now. But considering the fact that it is getting a magnificent green makeover, maybe Rimini is a place I would go to in Italy which is already blessed with such immense heritage and glorious history. The new venture by Foster + Partners is sure to put Rimini on world map for being a model beach destination that is pristine clean!

Colossal Eco-House Leaves Zero Carbon Footprint In Spain

Rating: +17
Guess with so many eco-houses and eco-towns spurting in many corners of the world, it wouldn’t be late before our whole planet can be dubbed as eco-earth! Latest to crop up on the trends of eco-houses is the Eco House in Spain. This good-looking dwelling it aims to be the first zero carbon footprint home in Andalusia. Spread over 7,000 square feet, it is built with two-thirds less waste than traditional models and operates 80% more efficiently than similar sized home. However the most notable and green feature of this building is the solar roof that sits wing-like above the structure. The position of the angle holds the solar panels in the right position to maximize energy capture while also hiding them from view. Though this aspect aims to make the best of the heat from sun, at the same time, the shape also allows less heat transmitted into the house as the space between the two rooflines allows air to pass over the building adding to the cooling effect. Roll over for stunning images and fall in love with this green castle…..

Callebaut Architectures : Geneva 2020

Rating: +18
For our second installment of Vincent Callebaut’s work, we bring you his Geneva 2020 masterplan - the ‘Landscript’ project. The masterplan is for a [roughly] 220 hectares[about 2.2 square kilometers] area on the outskirts of the city that is currently used for industrial purposes - and therefore is in need of a green shift.
The goal of the project is described by Callebaut as ‘a minimum of free spaces for a maximum of dual spaces’, in the hopes of creating as many multi purpose spaces as possible - in order to reduce building footprints/impact on the surrounding environment. This newly created landscape, which would house 100,000 new city dwellers, ’superimposes’ itself over the preexisting industrial infrastructure [trains, roads, etc] - further diminishing it’s impact.

ACROS Fukuoka: The serene green roof of Japan!

Rating: +14
You must have heard about the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and if you haven’t then I suggest a little peak in to the ancient wonders of the world. While building a structure like that might have been an extraordinary architectural achievement in those times, it probably is a lot les difficult today. With the world’s leading architects planning the future agriculture on spectaculargreen skyscrapers, hanging fields might soon be a common sight (Although not that soon). Here is another example of making sure that green goodness spreads and how it can spread not just horizontally but also vertically!

Rotating Wind Power Tower to begin construction in Dubai

Rating: +26
Dubai has garnered much attention in recent years with a never-ending supply of architectural wonders being built, or proposed, at a head spinning pace. Mostly these towering structures are grand and tall, but some are also green. We’ve covered many an ambitious Dubai skyscraper scheme here at Inhabitat, including David Fisher’s Rotating Tower, but there is new news from Fisher’s Dynamic Architecture firm. This self-sufficient, sun and wind powered design is making headlines once again as the Italian-Israeli architect has just unveiled the latest design for his twirling tower, and construction is set to begin this month!
