Not sure that the “Chinese do it better”. They killed many of our pets a few years ago by putting antifreeze in the pet foods, and they put lead in our kids toys! They do it CHEAPER, that’s for sure–no quality control!

The third picture is not a copy, but merely a product of a joint venture in China by Isuzu and a company called Landwind.

fucking chinese they copy absolutely everything! I’m a coin collector and I was in hong kong a few years ago and bought some coins and they turned out to be fakes! Also I recently bought a used watch and it turned out to be fake too! I hate fakes! They should make their own stuff instead of copying everything!

People are so quick to jump on the bandwagon saying that the chinese only copy this and that….if anyone did proper research on china, they would realise that the chinese are actually inventing a lot of things and pushing independent design. People who say chinese have not invented anything are ignorant and should read up their history. They have invented a lot of everyday things that we take for granted today. Paper, gunpowder, the compass, crossbow, the concept of a restaurant…the list goes on and on… I do admit that there are quite a few blatant car “copies” out there, but not all are copies, some are actually licensed productions from japanese/western companies. Furthermore, the problem is that a lot of people are purposely looking for similarities between chinese cars and other cars so that they can smugly say: “its a copy”. There are so many similarities between other cars that are not chinese, but of course no one is looking for such similarities. In any case, i do think all this copying business is just a way for the chinese to leapfrog their way to the top….look how the Americans did the exact same thing with their aerospace industry, blatantly “copying” german technology so that they would eventually emerge at the top of their game.

There was a time when lots of people were criticizing japanese and korean cars, saying the exact same things such as that they are copies and they are shit quality. Mark my words, in 10 years time, there will be quality chinese cars that can rival the best of japan, korea and europe. By then you would have forgotten how you used to hate chinese cars and you will be standing in line to buy one.

When people defend China, they revert to those age old inventions. Yes, there were centuries in China which produced many world changing inventions that changed the world forever such as the compass, gun powder, etc. But, that was it. You can’t keep holding onto that. China exploits it’s people and copy literally EVERYTHING and sell it for cheaper. It’s bad business, there is ZERO innovation. It is so easy to reverse engineer something, but SO difficult to do the research and INVENT something. HUGE difference. That’s where China is WRONG. So just because you invented TOFU and DOMINOES does not mean anything in RELATIVE TERMS TO MODERN SOCIETY. Almost every great modern invention if made by WESTERN ideals. Why did China want to learn EVERYTHING from western ideals for many decades during the 18/19th centuries? It is degrading to have so many inventions reverse engineered in China. Stuff should never be sent to china. If they want to be isolationist – by all means go ahead and do that, look how N. Korea turned out. Shunned by the world with the worst technology and malnourished population. I don’t mind the Chinese as a people, but as humble as they try to be they should be inventing their own stuff. Not dwelling on the past that has No connection to anyone in china now. Those people who invented gun powder are not around.

No matter what anyone thinks of China the fact remains that they have as a nation progressed a lot within the last few years and have a lot of potential for the future. However it is also fact that most if not all Chinese cars are banned from Europe as they do not conform to E.U safety specs or emissions tests, therefore there is no way that these replicas are as good or better than the originals.
Top gear England from the BBC recently went to China to check these Chinese replicas out for themselves and they tested 2 Chinese replicas one of which was the ‘Guangzhou Auto Trumpchi sedan’ which is apparently a replica of the Alfa 166 platform and they discovered that the Trumpchi is significantly slower than the Alfa original and built to a much lower standard hence the E.U ban. I also saw something else very interesting on the BBC news recently stating that Rolls Royce of England are currently experiencing records profits despite the economic downturn with a majority of new car sales going to China, indicating that most of the wealthy chinese prefer the original car over the replica, I believe I also saw a similar report for Aston Martin and Bentley too.

Hi England1186, the Trumpchi is not a replica. It is built on the Alfa Romeo platform bought from Fiat. Aesthetically different from the Alfa, how then can it be considered a replica (I own one). The other car tested is a Roewe 350. Roewe cars are built from the factory of Rover bought by the Chinese. They did not buy the brand name so created their own.
